Cinema Blend: Trailer: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell

  • Amber Berglund · 4 months ago
Tucker Max is a sociopath. Other sociopaths praise and worship him as their idol. For some reason, having a serious psychological disorder has become synonymous with *success*...and people wonder why Dubya got re-"elected."

It's better to be psychotic and do what you want than it is to actually be concerned with how your actions affect other people.
  • Kevin · 4 months ago
you need to lighten up. people like you (who get overly offended) are the reason people like tucker max get famous. if no one pissed and moaned about him he would be just another asshole. Pretty much all comedies these days get their laughs at the expense of other people and if you say you havnt laughed at one of these movies, your either lying or have something blunt shoved very far up your ass, so please lighten up, youll live longer. if you aint laughin you aint livin.
  • laugh_a_lot · 4 months ago
Amber, why do you hate him so much?
  • anotherelitist · 4 months ago
she could be fat... and/or a stripper...
  • roxanne1217 · 4 months ago
haha you need to calm down.
just because you dont have a humorous bone in your body doesnt mean everyone else that does has a disorder. maybe your the one with the problem.
  • calgaryshottest · 4 months ago
WTF Amber? I am so sorry you were only given a 1 star rating. Let me know if you want to talk, there's plenty of us sociopaths out there if you need a shoulder to cry on:-) Either way it sounds like you read his book, so u gotta give him some credit, despite whatever f*d up thing he did to you in bed or where ever else, that gave you this massive hate on for the guy. OMG do u have a character in the movie?? That would be so cool.
  • Kristin · 4 months ago
I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that I am not the target demographic for the book or the movie.
  • jofeljoh · 4 months ago
The book was cool. "America as a concept is over?" what does that mean lol? Because of a book? LOL!

Take it with a grain of salt. Makes life much easier. And taking Hitler's Mein Kampf into the discussion: gross.

Lighten up people! Tucker Max is a self proclaimed asshole but the book was funny as hell! Don't read it or watch the movie if you're offended.
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
Right, and by an extension of your logic, Mein Kampf was a best seller and Hitler deserves accolades for promoting his own brand of anti-social behavior.
  • jofeljoh · 4 months ago
    Wow. Godwin's law anyone?
  • JT · 4 months ago
Hey gary, was this a response to Amber?
  • Sompletely Cober · 4 months ago
Maybe if you weren't a 15 year old Elf you would understand the humor. I guess being around so much glue and tinsel warped your tiny brain.
  • JT · 4 months ago
What in the world are you talking about Sompletely?
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
No, it was a reply to T. Thumm.
  • calgaryshottest · 4 months ago
You are actually comparing Tucker Max to Hitler? LOL wow, that is amazing, anyways tucker max loves everyone equal I'm sure, including the Helen Kellers' of the world. I'm referring of course Gary_p, to your other comment on FSR in regards to Tucker and the deaf girl, tucker and the blind girl, tucker and the little person (you posted midget but I am sure you meant the other term as midget is very defamatory)....I believe all of these people have the right to have sex with anyone they want, by you discriminating against so many groups of people in one statement, than who is really acting like Hitler?? Tucker Max is just simply trying to spread the love.
  • Drew · 2 months ago
    Gary,
There is a difference between living your life the way you want to live it and what Hitler did. Tucker has not hurt ANYONE in his actions. If you talk to the people who actually KNOW Tucker Max and have actually MET him, they all love him. The only people that Tucker has hurt are the uptight, blowhards that really have no reason to feel and act the way that they do. Thats the beauty of America and the message that Tucker delivers (And for all the haters that talk crap instead of educating themselves, his message is living the life that you want to live, whatever that may be), if you don't like him or his work, then don't read/watch it. THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO!!! Stunning concept, I know. But since you haven't even read any of his work and therefore can not make an educated decision (I'm sure you are used to that), you decide to hate on someone that you see having success. Take a look in the mirror, ask yourself, "What is more like Hitler, someone living their life that they choose to live without hurting anyone in the process and encouraging others to do the same; Or some jealous cod-knobbler trying to defame his work without even reviewing it himself?" I hope, for your sake, that you let go of your hatred for successful people that you don't know, and put that work and energy into actually doing something with YOUR life. Good luck, I have a feeling you are going to need it.

Reviews like this are the very reason this movie is going to wildly succeed...Isn't it wonderful?
  • JT · 4 months ago
It's not a review. It's a discussion of the trailer, not a review of the movie. Reviews on this site are very clearly marked. Go here: http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/
  • T. Thumm · 4 months ago
Miss Rich. Apparently you're not a fan. Have you read said book, or are you just not a fan of good comedy? Isn't it a fact of comedy that someone or something gets made fun of because of something that they did purposely or unintentionally?
And to imagine that this became a movie, starting from a simple online dating application is pretty hard to believe.
So lets sit back and watch this movie become successful. If it doesn't, the guy still has accomplished something we'll probably never do.
  • merriamwebster · 4 months ago
It's nice to see the rigors of internet journalism once more rear their finicky heads with the misspelling of not one, but TWO, of the lead actors' names within the space of a 200 word piece.

    Gud jobz, Katey.
  • Geoge Lucas · 4 months ago
Racist? What the hell? Where do you get that? I'd LOVE for you to quote something Tucker has done that is racist.
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
You should read his screenplay. It is racist and misogynist. Here's a free sample from this turd of a movie:

    "CUT TO:
INT. DALLAS COUNTY JAIL - 3:30AM - FLASHBACK
Jeff is at the apex of his drunkenness, surrounded by a bunch of Mexicans."
  • gary_p_is_dumb · 4 months ago
so, if they're from Mexico, isn't that the correct term to use? i'd think that the use of the word "hispanics" would encompass other countries from other spanish speaking countries as well. i dont see the racism in that at all.
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
Oh, and you know for fact that a hispanic in the USA is from Mexico.

No wonder you like Tucker Max. You too are a racist.
  • Geoge Lucas · 4 months ago
Wait wait wait, you're saying that YOU know for a fact, that all of the "hispanics" in said jail cell are NOT from Mexico? Did you work on the movie? Can you tell me if it's any good? Idiot.
  • gary_p_is_dumb · 4 months ago
considering that the story originated from "the austin road trip," (austin happens to be in texas, which borders mexico, in case you didn't know), my intitial assumption is that they are indeed from mexico, making them mexicans. i think you're the racist one for thinking that word mexican is derogatory.
  • walterlipman · 4 months ago
he's not racist. he knows the correct term for someone from mexico is mexican. the screenplay is right to say "surrounded by a bunch of mexicans" if they are in fact, MEXICAN. you see racism because you want to see it. fucktard.
  • calgaryshottest · 4 months ago
    I'll second that....
  • ckite · 4 months ago
... I fail to see how that is racist if the man is surrounded by Mexicans. That's a statement of fact, not discrimination.
  • Geoge Lucas · 4 months ago
Holy crap you are stupid Gary P. You think he's a racist because he calls a group of Mexicans... Mexicans? Wow.
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
    Right stooges.

So if someone is an American born hispanic, he or she is a Mexican if he or she is in Austin, Texas.

Now we know what types of fools idolize Tucker Max.
  • gary_p_is_dumb · 4 months ago
if they are a mexican born hispanic, they are a mexican. even if they are in austin, texas.

likewise, a columbian born hispanic would be a columbian. even if they are in austin, texas.

if tucker had said "surrounded by a bunch of columbians," would he still be racist, you dolt?
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
And of course, you know where they were born, which is my point. A racist makes an inference that anyone who is of color is somehow not an American. Americans of hispanic decent are frequently referred to as Mexicans, just as any American with Asian heritage is frequently referred to as a foreigner (Chinese, Japenese, etc.) as well.

You have a responsibility to educate yourself.
  • gary_p_is_dumb · 4 months ago
we can make a topical inference on where they were born by knowing some geography.

since mexico borders texas, and austin is roughly 225 miles from the border, i'd say that the probability of all the hispanics in said jail cell being mexican were high.

so maybe you are the one who needs to educate yourself.
  • CTJim · 4 months ago
You have a responsibility not to be a complete idiot. They wrote the script, so don't you think maybe they get to choose the nationality of the characters?

Your assumption that they couldn't have meant ACTUAL Mexicans--what does that make YOU, exactly?
  • jlstoll · 4 months ago
I'm confused. So... he wouldn't be a racist if he referred to them as hispanics, even though anyone knowing they were in Austin that has any common sense would automtically assume they were Mexican or of Mexican descent?
  • BaseballGuyCAA · 4 months ago
Gary, you are exactly the kind of pompous, feminized "man" I despise with a passion. And, in your shrill accusations of racism, you've actually shed light on your inner racism.

You assume that the word "Mexican" has negative connotations because, to you, it does. With your posh, white-collar life, you have a deep-seeded fear of those with a different skin color than you. You try to mask this with progressive ideology--hating that chauvinistic pig Tucker Max, standing up in the name of political correctness, reading feminist blogs--but to anyone with a higher IQ than you (close to half the world), it's not hard to see through the act.

Sometimes a Mexican is just a Mexican. And, in the age of illegal immigration, when you're in a jail cell in Austin, TX inthe middle of the night and surrounded by a large group of people who are noticeably Hispanic in makeup, odds are they are a bunch of Mexicans who got caught sneaking across the border.

You enjoy the smell of your own farts, don't ya Gary?
  • jerman · 4 months ago
There is nothing wrong or racist about that direction. Compare this to a different race, say, black people, or "African Americans" and you'll get the same problem. If the direction were to read, "Tucker is in a cell full of black people," it would be less politically correct yet more factually correct, because the statement "Tucker is in a cell full of African-Americans" assumes all of the Africans are actually American. However, this point is totally moot because the sentence is a DIRECTION, telling a film crew what is happening. Thus, Tucker is not in a random jail cell with Hispanics who MIGHT be Mexican, he is in an Austin jail cell with Hispanics who ARE Mexican. I don't think anyone would call you racist if you said "The Kandahar prison is filled with Americans," assuming all of the white people in the prison are indeed American. Perhaps factually incorrect, but not racist.
  • blinder99 · 4 months ago
Cinemablend: You should have picked a reviewer from the demographic this movie is designed for. Katies review of the trailer and comments about the book are pointless and clearly irritating to those that the movie will be enjoyed by.

I'm 46 - live in another country, I enjoy Tuckers style of writing - its refreshing and its also very honest - while I might not do or agree with some of the things he does, it does bring back images of by youth...

We prefer to give voice to all kinds of different points of view, not just the ones that are most likely to pander to fans.
  • Geoge Lucas · 4 months ago
Then can I get a spot on here so that I can slander people by baselessly calling them racists too?
  • JT · 4 months ago
If that's your sole goal then probably not.

Besides, you're George Lucas. Shouldn't you be busy wearing flannel and crushing fanboy dreams?
  • gary_p · 4 months ago
Did someone confuse this movie and trailer for good comedy? If this movie was any more of a dog, it would shed hair!

Here's what a professional Hollywood script reader had to say:

"Holy crap, It’s terrible. I’m talking Godawful. Even with the offensive factor set aside, it’s in my top 10 worst comedy scripts ever read (out of probably over a thousand). This thing is poorly structured, obvious and predictable at every turn, with flat, one-dimensional characters who ALL sound exactly the same and an ending that falls flatter than humorless girl in a Tucker Max story.... I love broad, juvenile comedies done well. I also love real, juvenile people who make juvenile jokes and know many comedy writers do this for a living in a way that is funny and smart. But funny and smart are operative words here. And the Tucker Max jokes aren’t. Often, they aren’t even jokes, just clichés recited at the expense of some bystander in a way that just makes you feel embarrassed for everyone involved."

"America, as a concept, is over"

How do you even put that in the context of a movie where a guy gets drunk, fucks a lot of women, and laughs at peoples shortcomings? Sounds like what I do every other weekend. You should make time to visit a college campus. You'll find a lot of people who like to do the same things. It's about not being inhibited. If you think the American flag is being raped because a smart ass with a mega sex drive and a sweet-tooth for alcohol has succeeded, you have a retarded concept of freedom.
  • Cheesefrog · 4 months ago
Getting drunk, fucking, and laughing at others IS the concept of America!

As for Gary's dumbass argument, if the screenplay you presented says they are Mexicans, then that's what they are. Trying to find racism in that is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Take your agenda and stick it where it belongs.

Meanwhile Amber's still whining delusionally about an election from a decade ago, and somehow connecting a crass comedy with the downfall of free society. Yeah, okay. I think I know what Tucker would say she needs...

Can't wait to see the movie tonight. I imagine it won't be very good (although I'm willing to be surprised) but who cares, it's just a movie and I'm sure I'll get a few laughs out of it. I'm not expecting Citizen Kane or anything. And I'm really looking forward to seeing the Mexicans!
  • wendy1234 · 4 months ago
Describing people from Mexico as "Mexicans" is not racist, only a moron would think that. But assuming that a Texas jail cell would be full of people from another country is implicitly racist in that it suggests Mexicans commit far more crime than Americans.
  • Dylonius Maximus · 4 months ago
But since crossing the border is a crime if you are undocumented, and Texas borders Mexico, and every year thousands of Mexicans break the law by crossing into Texas, then it would make since that Texas jails would be full of Mexicans. So it is indeed... not racist.

I am such a fucking winner.
  • guadalupe4546 · 4 months ago
    You are a winner
  • ruca · 4 months ago
You're right, but considering that the movie is based on a true story, could it be that the friend who went to jail was IN A JAIL CELL IN TEXAS SURROUNDED BY MEXICANS?????

That would kinda rule out the "assumption", as well as the racism.
  • name654321 · 4 months ago
Anyone who thinks Tucker is "hateful" needs to jump out of a window.

  • gary_p_wow · 4 months ago
Gary_P, I don't even like the trailer, or Tucker Max, but you're argument about him being racist is still the dumbest thing I have absolutely ever heard. Ever. And it's a movie people. Calm down.
  • TheOnlyRealist · 4 months ago
It doesn't strike me as a must see.

And the level of offensiveness doesn't even begin to touch propaganda films. Anyone who spends any time on more popular internet sites have seen much worse expressed. Anyone ever read YouTube comments?

But the jail scene with the "mexicans" is a gimmick that's been used tons of times. Any one remember the variation in Oceans 13 when they fire up the "local workforce" in the Latin Country to get the dice made? Attacking with cries of Revolution!

You can argue racist and offensiveness all you like. The movie still had merit for someone to make it and throw financing at it. Hell, even Passion of the Christ had racist and offensive tossed at it.

We get it. You in your morally right tower do not like it. Good for you. You fight that good fight.

The story is light reading. You don't have to think too much. You just laugh at someone doing or saying something you might think but never utter in public. It's dessert reading. Not a lot of meat or substance.

Same with the movie. It's not meant to be a piece of great american cinema. It doesn't shoot to be an artistic masterpiece. But I can guarantee it's not as tame as most of the lame National Lampoon's flicks. And I also guarantee that the dialog mean or otherwise is about as true as possible. Don't believe me, go give a 20 year old campus rat a few drinks and see what falls out of his mouth.
  • Name · 4 months ago
The Hangover wasn't outright hateful? Within the first five minutes, the words "gay" and "fag" were both used in a derogatory manner. I'm paraphrasing but the lines- "...but don't text me, because it's gay" & "Paging Dr. Faggot" were the ones I'm talking about. Some people (not me, but I'm just saying) would consider it outright hateful.
  • neonpanzer · 4 months ago
Im glad they are making this movie. Just because it offends you as much as it does. WELCOME TO AMERICA. If you dont want to be offended move somewhere that doesnt have our 1st amendment anywhere in their rights and you should fit in just fine.
  • eugenehutz · 4 months ago
why would somebody watch the movie if they know they're going to be offended? especially since they read the book.
  • jon_L · 4 months ago
TheOnlyRealist comes close to calling this movie what it appears to be: another National Lampoon's movie. Based on the trailer, it contains the same overacting, binge drinking, fart and piss jokes, random tit shots, and misogynistic quips that define the straight-to-video/skinemax National Lampoon's movies from the past 10 years. It will have a stronger following than those movies because Tucker Max has a following. And there's no doubt it will appeal to the alpha-deuche and, possibly, the girls who like alpha-dueches, but any thoughtful person who has seen a decent movie or read a decent author will recognize the shock-for-shock-sake approach that defines how unoriginal Max really is.
  • nicholaswest · 4 months ago
    I think I won't be seeing this.

    Amber was well spoken.

And when you tell people to "lighten up" and then talk about things being shoved up their asses, you're just trying to provoke a response. And you're an asshole.

You all need to get over yourselves! It was a great selling, why not make it a movie? They made Harry Potter a damn movie. The book and movie were made for men... Hmmm no wonder why females dont like it. I hate watching the Notebook! I see the racism in this movie. Being an asshole to women, hahaha when arent women stuck up bitches! So like I said get over yourselves and enjoy the flick!
