It honestly wouldn't surprise me if this went all the way to the big screen. Although some scripting edits may be in order. Maybe Martin Lawrence as the Sundance Kid alongside John Travolta, also modern-day Southern California/Mexico instead of early 20th Century Bolivia... then they can ride the Wildhogs wave into the box office.

Groupthink can drag bad ideas a long, long way. The comparison with Battlefield Earth is appropriate because that movie's production only made sense to the people directly involved in it - people motivated more by religion than by artistic integrity. Similarly, the Star Wars prequels contained so many plot holes and so much poorly delivered dialogue that it's only in the context of the Cult of Lucas that we can understand why the production's self-criticism stood no chance of holding back its badness. I wouldn't be surprised if this Butch Cassidy got filmed.

Two thoughts to help you relax: (a) it's obvious it would not do well in cinemas if it happened, and (b) the owners of the existing film are under no obligation to sell the rights to Travolta and Cruise, and might be just as bothered by the idea as the rest of us.

Actually Tom is a great actor. But I don't know if the two would be good together. John is a bit more hit and miss. It depends on the role. Be Cool was a fantastic movie. Ladder 49 was too.
